July 2010 Meeting

Our July meeting is Tuesday July 20, at Lovezzola’s Pizza in Pooler. This month, member Clayton Osbon is going to share with us what it’s like to fly for the airlines. Clayton is a captain and check pilot for JetBlue Airways where he flys the Airbus A320. For fun, he flys a Piper L-4 (talk about contrast!).

The program starts at 7:00 but come early for dinner and some hangar flying. Folks generally arrive between 6:15 and 6:30. Order and pay for your pizza, sub, salad, or pasta up front, and then join us in the back room.

June 2010 Meeting

Our June meeting is Tuesday June 15, at Lovezzola’s Pizza in Pooler. This month, a couple of the controllers from the Savannah Air Traffic Control Tower will be joining us for a pilot/controller discussion. It’s sure to be enjoyable and educational. And, it’s always nice to have a face to match up with that voice on the radio.

May 2010 Meeting

Our May meeting is Tuesday, May 18, at the Savannah Airport Commission’s picnic area. Come join your fellow members for an evening of fellowship and food. No program this time, so there will be plenty of time to socialize.

The picnic area is on Crossroads Parkway. Turn off Airways Avenue (which runs between Interstate 95 and the Savannah airport terminal building) between the BP and Shell stations. Follow the road around the big curve to the left. The picnic area is on the right, before the road takes a big curve to the right to parallel the Interstate. Click here for a map to the picnic area.

April 2010 Meeting

Our April meeting is Tuesday April 20, at Lovezzola’s Pizza in Pooler. Jim Sanford is going to share his Vietnam slides with us and provide commentary from a helicopter pilot’s perspective.

The program starts at 7:00 but come early for dinner and some hangar flying. You’ll find folks arriving as early as 6:00. Order and pay for your pizza, sub, salad, or pasta up front, and then join us in the back room.

March 2010 Meeting

Our March meeting will be held on Tuesday March 16, at Lovezzola’s Pizza in Pooler. The program will include a talk about selecting rope for tiedowns and a game of aviation Jeopardy.

February 2010 Meeting

Our February meeting will be held at Coast Guard Air Station Savannah on Hunter Army Air Field. We’ll be treated to an ops briefing and a brief on their very successful maintenance and logistics system, including a tour of the hangar deck.

LORAN-C Shutting Down

In accordance with the DHS Appropriations Act, the U.S. Coast Guard will terminate the transmission of all U.S. LORAN-C signals effective 2000Z 08 Feb 2010. At that time, the U.S. LORAN-C signal will be unusable and permanently discontinued. Full details are available at the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center web site.

2010 Dues

Well, this has been such a good year that we have been able to LOWER your dues. Now, instead of $35.00 a year, you pay only $30.00. However—and here is the deal—if you pay during January, it’s only $25.00!

We have about 110 folks on the email list. I would like to see a lot of those people join. By doing so, we will be better able to fund events for club members throughout the year. I mean, It’s only $25.00! It costs me twice that to fill up the tank in my truck.

So get out your checkbook and write one to Savannah Aviation Association, and mail it to PO Box 15138, Savannah, GA 31416. The more people we have, the more fun we’ll have!

January 19, 2010 Meeting

This month’s speaker will give us a first-person account of such a trip, with slides, video, and captivating commentary. Come out to Lovezzola’s on Tuesday evening, January 19th, and hear our own Mario Corti recount this amazing feat.
